Comparing providers as well? Our guide to the best email hosting in Australia for small business covers what to look for.

Why use a professional email address?

Business email costs a few dollars a month and changes how customers, suppliers and spam filters see you.

Make a better first impression

A quote from [email protected] looks like it came from an established company. The same quote from a free Gmail or Hotmail address makes people wonder whether it is legitimate.

Every address you create on your domain carries your brand, from your own inbox to sales@, info@ and accounts@ for the team.

Own your address, not your provider

Your email address belongs to your domain, not to the company storing your mail. If you outgrow email hosting and move to Microsoft 365, or change providers altogether, the address on your business cards stays the same.

No domain yet? Search for a .com.au or .com and register it in the same order as your email. Then follow our guide on how to set up a business email address.

Email that gets delivered

Gmail and Outlook check whether your mail really comes from your domain. We set up the MX, SPF and DKIM records for every HSJ Host email service, so your messages land in the inbox instead of the spam folder.

Incoming mail is spam filtered too, and your mailboxes are looked after by an Australian team you can call, 24/7. Already having trouble? Read why your emails are not coming through.

"I came to HSJ Hosting at a really desperate time. Our previous web hosting company had us on a shared server, and our website kept going down during peak periods, which was frustrating our franchisees. James moved us to a VPS for around a third of the price, and since then our website hasn’t gone down once. More importantly, James is a hands on business owner who is in the trenches with us, active in our group chats and constantly monitoring performance. Massive thank you for everything, James."

Business email FAQs

Cost, free options, Gmail, domains and choosing between email hosting and Microsoft 365. Moving to Microsoft 365? See Microsoft 365 migration.

What is a business email address?

A business email address uses your own domain name, such as [email protected], instead of a free address ending in @gmail.com or @outlook.com. It tells customers who they are dealing with, and the address stays yours for as long as you renew the domain, whichever email provider you use.

How much does business email cost in Australia?

With HSJ Host, business email hosting starts at $4.35 per month for 5 email accounts. Shared cPanel hosting starts at $8.79 per month and includes a website and 10 email accounts. Microsoft 365 Business starts at $15.35 per user per month. All prices are in AUD and include GST.

Can I get business email for free?

Free services such as Gmail and Outlook.com give you an address on their domain, not yours. Email on your own domain needs a domain name and somewhere to store the mail. If you already have HSJ Host shared hosting, email accounts are included at no extra cost, so you do not need to pay for email separately.

Can I use Gmail with my business email?

A free Gmail account cannot host email for your domain, but you can add your business address to the Gmail app on your phone using IMAP and keep using the app you know. Google Workspace is the paid Google service for email on your own domain, priced per user.

Is a domain the same as an email address?

No. The domain is the name, such as yourbusiness.com.au. The email service is where your mail is stored and sent from. You need both. You can use a domain you already own with any registrar, or register one with HSJ Host when you order email.

Can I get a .com.au email address?

Yes. Register a .com.au domain and every address on it ends in .com.au, for example [email protected]. A .com.au domain needs an Australian business connection, such as an ABN.

Do I need a website to have business email?

No. Business email hosting gives you mailboxes on your domain without website hosting. Your domain does not need a website at all, or the website can stay with another host such as Wix, Shopify or Squarespace.

Should I choose email hosting or Microsoft 365?

Choose email hosting if you need reliable mailboxes that work in webmail, Outlook and on your phone. Choose Microsoft 365 if the team also needs Exchange shared calendars, Teams, OneDrive and Office apps, or larger 50 GB mailboxes. Many small businesses start with email hosting and move to Microsoft 365 later.

Can you move my existing email to HSJ Host?

Yes. Moving mailboxes from another cPanel email provider to HSJ Host email hosting is free, although very large mailboxes may be quoted first. Standard cPanel to Microsoft 365 migrations start from $120 per mailbox GST inclusive.

Where is my business email stored?

Email hosting and shared hosting mailboxes are stored on HSJ Host servers in Sydney, Australia. Microsoft 365 mailboxes are stored in the Microsoft cloud, and HSJ Host supports the licences and setup from Australia.

Not sure which email is right?

Tell us how your team works and we will recommend the simplest option. Most small businesses start with email hosting from $4.35 per month.
