How email hosting works

Three steps from ordering to sending your first email from your own domain. Most of the setup is done for you.

  1. Order with your domain

    Choose a plan and enter the domain you already own. No domain yet? Register a .com.au or .com in the same order.

  2. We set up the DNS records

    If your domain uses our nameservers, we add the MX, SPF and DKIM records. If your DNS is elsewhere, we send you the exact records, or add them for you if you give us access. Your website records are not touched.

  3. Create mailboxes and connect devices

    Create each address in cPanel, then add it to Outlook, Apple Mail or your phone with the IMAP and SMTP settings in your welcome email. How to create an email account in cPanel.

Email that reaches the inbox

Most business email problems are not the mailbox. They are missing DNS records, so Gmail and Outlook treat your messages as suspicious. We set up SPF and DKIM for every email hosting account, which tells receiving servers your mail really comes from you.

How much does business email hosting cost in Australia?

HSJ Host business email hosting starts at $4.35 per month GST inclusive for 5 email accounts. Email Business is $8.75 per month for 10 accounts and Email Professional is $16.45 per month for 25 accounts. Annual billing costs the same as 10 months, so you get 2 months free. There is no setup fee.

Can I keep my website with another host?

Yes. Email hosting only changes where your email is delivered. Your website can stay on Wix, Shopify, Squarespace or another host. We point your MX record and the related email records at our Sydney mail server and leave the website records alone.

Do I need my own domain name?

Yes. Business email uses your own domain, for example [email protected]. You can use a domain you already own with any registrar, or register a new .com.au, .au or .com with HSJ Host when you order.

Is there free business email hosting?

Free email services such as Gmail and Outlook.com give you an address on their domain, not yours. Business email on your own domain usually costs a few dollars a month. If you also need a website, every HSJ Host shared hosting plan includes email accounts, so you do not need to buy email separately.

Can Gmail host my business email?

A free Gmail account cannot host email on your own domain. Google Workspace can, as a paid per-user service. With HSJ Host email hosting your mailboxes live on our Sydney server, and you can still read them in the Gmail app on your phone, in Outlook or in Apple Mail using IMAP.

What is the difference between email hosting and Microsoft 365?

Email hosting gives you cPanel mailboxes with webmail, IMAP and SMTP from $4.35 per month for 5 accounts. Microsoft 365 Business is priced per user from $15.35 per month GST inclusive and adds Exchange, shared calendars, Teams, OneDrive and Office apps. Choose email hosting for straightforward mailboxes and Microsoft 365 when the team works in Outlook, Teams and shared files every day.

Will you move my existing email to HSJ Host?

Yes. Moving mailboxes from another cPanel email provider is free. Very large mailboxes may be quoted before we start. If your email is with a different type of provider, contact us and we will tell you what is involved before you order.
