Australian domains aren't quite the same as registering a .com. Some namespaces have Australian presence and eligibility requirements, and the domain you choose may need to meet specific allocation rules.

Your domain doesn't have to stay where you bought it
A lot of people don't realise this. Registering a domain somewhere originally doesn't mean it has to remain there forever.
Transferring a domain also doesn't inherently mean moving the website or email at the same time. If the nameservers stay put, the site and mail keep working while the registrar changes.

What domain name should I choose for an Australian business?

What is the difference between .com.au and .au?

Who can register a .com.au domain?
.com.au is for Australian commercial entities, and the name needs an allowable connection to the business. If you are not sure you meet the rule, read Australian Domain Names or ask us before you register.
How much does a domain name cost in Australia?

Can I transfer my domain to HSJ Host?
Yes, for eligible domains. Start on Transfer a Domain. You will need the domain unlocked and an auth/EPP code from the current registrar.
Will transferring my domain affect my website or email?
Not if the nameservers stay the same. Transferring the registrar does not automatically move hosting or email. If you are unsure, ask us to check DNS before you start.
How long does a domain transfer take?
Most transfers complete within a few days, depending on the extension and how quickly approval emails are confirmed. The transfer page walks through each step.
Can I keep my domain with HSJ Host and host my website somewhere else?
Yes. Domain registration and web hosting are separate. You can point DNS at another host, or keep hosting with us. The client portal manages both.
Can HSJ Host manage my DNS?
Yes. Nameservers and DNS records are managed in the client portal, with Australian support when a change is not resolving.
What happens if my domain expires?
Website and email on that name can go offline. Keep billing contacts current and renew on time in the portal. If a domain has already expired, contact us quickly so we can talk through options.
What is WHOIS?

Do I need web hosting when I register a domain?
